What is Global Positioning System? (GPS)
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite navigation system that was developed to determine a precise location almost anywhere on Earth. The technology has since matured into further reaching applications ?monitor the movement of people and things, create maps of the world, get directions without having to stop and ask for help, and be able to tell time with perfect accuracy. Harness the power of satellite navigation and track the movement of your car or truck with a GPS Vehicle Tracking System.
Child Tracking Devices, GPS Trackers, & Personal Family GPS Locators
All children tend to wander and a child locator or GPS Tracker is an invaluable tool for parents because in the blink of an eye, kids can disappear. In conjunction with strong parental supervision, child locators are an excellent choice for parents hoping to increase their children's safety. Child locator devices, Loc8tor, or The BrickHouse Child Locator in particular, help parents keep track of their children in especially crowded or hectic situations. The BrickHouse Locator will alert you the moment your child goes out of range. Get a child locater today and start protecting your children in every way possible.
Various Kinds of Child Locators
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Based Devices like The BrickHouse Child Locator alert you to a wandering child and helps locate them with a hand held unit. This kind of system can find children quickly within a range of 300 to 600 Feet.
Simple Audio Alert Units like Mommy I'm Here feature a cute Teddy Bear Receiver your child wears, triggers a loud 56 DB intermittent chirp/beeping sound when the parent pushes a button on the hand held remote.
GPS Logging Devices such as the PocketTrack will tell you where your child has been after you download the data collected on the GPS Logger to your PC to view the maps and data.
GPS Real Time Tracking Systems like the TrimTracXS ideal for monitoring the whereabouts of teen drivers enables you to log on to the Internet and see where your child is at any moment. There have been attempts to develop a Real Time GPS Unit the size of a wristwatch for children, but so far battery life and other issues have made this system unreliable. We continue to work on finding a system to fit this need. What is a "Locate" or "Ping" ?
A "Locate" is when a GPS Tracking device sends location coordinates to the tracking system to be marked on a map and recorded with a street address if available. This recorded location with any associated data such as date, time, speed, direction ect. is called a "Locate"
Locates can be generated one of three ways:
Motion activated tracking is when the unit only turns on when it senses motion or vibrations and sends out locates at a predefined rate for the time it is in motion and then shuts down when no more motion is detected. (this saves battery power)
Constant tracking is when a tracking device continues to send locates regardless of whether there is any motion. This will lead to a very short battery life unless the device it wired into the cars electrical system.
Location on Request is when you only get a location if you send the device a request for it to send back its location. This will use less locates but requires a constant power to keep the device awake and listening for your request. This will lead to a very short battery life unless the device it wired into the cars electrical system.
The more locates you get the more dots you will see on the map and more closely you can follow the activity.
For those who want to avoid monthly fees, a GPS data logger is a great option. You can place a device on the car; it will record locations as the car drives around. You can then retrieve the device later and connect it to your PC to read the data and download all the locates..
The advantage of a data logger is very detailed report at a low cost with no monthly fees and no cost per locate, so you can get locates up to once every second.
The disadvantage of a non real-time system is that you can not find out where a car is or has been until it returns and you retrieve the device. This is a good solution to monitor the driving behavior of a teen or employee over the past few days or weeks but will not help you find a missing car.
Save Money Using GPS on Insurance Premiums and Moonlighting
As the car races down the highway, the crash happens all too quickly. The front bumper crunches against the car ahead. The hoods steel crumples. Behind the fragmented windshield, Peters head jolts against the steering wheel with fragments of glass littering his blood-streaked head. Carelessness has consequences not only to the valuable lives lost, but to skyrocketing insurance premiums because of this carelessness. Only if the headquarters were alerted to the company car being taken out when it shouldnt have, this entire incident could have been prevented in the first place.
Accidents in company cars are a huge expense, costing companies in bloated insurance premiums for years to come. According to Automotive Fleet magazine, automotive accidents are the number one cause of job-related deaths. Traffic damage to a company car can cost up to $24,000 per car, a high price to pay for letting the speedometer rise a little too high. Employers lucky enough to avoid employee car accidents pay still pay a price for not keeping track of the way their cars are used. I have 8 employees who were using our company cars for moonlighting a few nights a week. How much can you save using GPS technology? Those extra miles cost us plenty in additional wear n tear, gas and liability risks, stated Robert H. from Huffman Electrical Repair. Until I installed one of those Fleet Tracking GPS devices, I had no idea how much money I was loosing every week!. A Spherion survey reveals that one out of ten employees dont feel that its wrong to take company property for personal use. Stealing paperclips may seem like a trivial offense, but when staplers turn into sedans, time and mileage charges add up quickly, leaving employers paying for their negligence and abuse.
Until recently, employers who want to track their mobile employees did not have a choice for watching over their expensive assets. Now they have the next generation in high-tech GPS surveillance. A low-cost, easily installed GPS system called LiveWire lets them monitor their cars speed and location-- in real time. LiveWire can instantly alert employers when their vehicle leaves its designated route, or when a set speed limit is broken. Knowing where and how their cars are used saves employers money, protects their assetsand quite possibly their employees lives.
